Movie Night III: The Revenge

Of Unknown Origin (1983)MV5BMTMxMTU4ODM3MV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMzc1MTAwMQ@@._V1__SX1537_SY713_A lesser known movie from George Cosmatos, the director of Cobra, Rambo 2, Tombstone, and Leviathan, where Peter Weller fights…a rat. Not a supernaturally large or mutated rat. Just…a rat that I guess is an unbelievable overachiever that starts doing increasingly ridiculous things to Peter Weller. First it somehow kills a cat that was brought in to defeat it, then it somehow finds and chews up a check that some exterminators were meant to receive to come deal with it, then it even chews up Peter Weller’s important work presentation out of nothing but spite. It’s not the greatest movie ever. It’s more of a drama/thriller than straight-up horror, really, but it’s still better than the average man vs. evil animal B-movie.

Sinister 2 (2015)sinister2It’s no Sinister 1, but it’s better than I expected from an unnecessary horror sequel like this. Once you already know the big twist from the original it kind of loses something I guess, but it still does a decent job with the creepy death films. It was enjoyable enough that I’d like to check out other films by this same director (Irish director Ciaran Foy). Also, bonus: music by Ulver! Apparently they did the music in the first one too and I just didn’t notice at all somehow. Huh.

Citadel (2012)citadelSure, let’s just watch another Ciaran Foy movie right now then. Or…his only other movie so far apparently. An unusual tale about a man plagued by…evil  hooligan monsters I guess? It’s odd, hard to explain, and very low budget, but somehow it works decently enough. Liked Sinister 2 a bit more, but I will definitely be keeping an eye on this director in the future.

Dude Bro Party Massacre III (2015)dudebroHoly shit the 80s-ness of this movie is amazing. They even made it in in SD and look like authentic VHS quality. Seriously amazing and seriously ridiculous 80s horror parody. This is a must see for anyone who likes ridiculous 80s horror.

Bleeders a.k.a. Hemoglobin (1997)bleedersA movie about weird incest mutant hermaphrodite vampires that even Rutger Hauer and a script partially written by the late, great Dan O’Bannon couldn’t save from being a trashy 90s-TV-movie-feeling snoozer shitfest.

Lavalantula (2015)lavalantulaI wouldn’t normally bother with SciFi channel garbage, but for Mike Mendez I made an exception. That was pretty stupid of me though. Holy shit is this bad. He’s clearly doing it on purpose just for the laughs, but it just doesn’t work for me. Next.

Bone Tomahawk (2015)bonetomahawkA western about Kurt Russell and friends vs. crazy cave cannibals. Sure, why not? Pretty good actually. A bit slow moving at times, but the characters are interesting enough that it doesn’t become boring. Things get surprisingly brutal once they catch up to the cannibals. Good times.
