Now Reading: Zenith (1987)

zenithAn earlier Grant Morrison work, originally printed in 2000AD, which only those lovely British people get. It’s a little rough around the edges and Zenith himself is not exactly a likable character, but it’s still a pretty good read. It’s kind of a prototype of what he did in Final Crisis, with some shifty, evil, extra-dimensional gods coming to visit Earth by inhabiting superhumans and getting into some multiverse destroying shenanigans.

That’s where the similarities end though. This is a pretty different tale of superhumans born through genetic engineering who end up becoming more media sensations than actual heroes, but end up having to deal with the terrible threat of invading Cthulhus because there isn’t anyone else on their world that can deal with it. It’s a relatively expensive set for its size and for not being one of his strongest works (which is not to say that it’s bad at all, but it’s no Invisibles), but I think it’s a worthwhile addition to a Morrison collection, if you’re into that kind of thing (and I am, severely). Now that we’re here, I guess there isn’t much else to say about this to even warrant it getting its own post, but I already cropped my unprofessional pic up there and everything, so there’s no turning back now!
